The Bottom Line National School Choice Week: Celebrating Momentum and Meaningful Wins
National School Choice Week is a great time to celebrate the opportunities and innovations taking place in America’s K-12 education system.
At the core of school choice lies this belief: parents — not bureaucrats — know what’s best for their child’s education.
Every year, there are school choice highlights, but this year is marked by extraordinary advances in education freedom. While school choice legislation at the state level is underway, there’s a brand-new, transformative law at the federal level: the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship.
In a remarkably short period, 26 governors have opted their states into the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship, unlocking new opportunities for families and demonstrating nationwide confidence in policies that put parents in the driver’s seat of their child’s educational journey.
As governors are quickly opting their states in, it’s an undeniably clear and strategic shift toward parental empowerment without adding federal red tape. It is a solution marked by flexibility and outcomes, rather than a one-size-fits-none ineffective model.

There is significant excitement at the federal level, while school choice is still alive and well at the state level. Lawmakers are advancing a wide range of educational options to ensure families have as much school choice as possible.
For example, in Tennessee, more than 50,000 student applications for a school choice education savings account were submitted by families desperate for an alternative to their residentially restricted public school. That’s an astonishing 30,000 new applications this year, plus 20,000 renewed applications.
Mississippi and other states are looking to advance widespread school choice legislation this session and join the 17 states that have enacted universal school choice over the past five years.
Education savings accounts, tax credits, and private school scholarships are all excellent ways for dads and moms to choose the best educational environments for their children.
Thankfully, for families nationwide, the momentum for education freedom isn’t slowing down.
National School Choice Week celebrates students and their futures. When families are empowered to choose the best educational setting, their children are well-positioned to succeed academically and be equipped for their futures.
The historical school choice success taking place is a reminder that education freedom isn’t merely a far-off dream. Rather, it’s becoming a reality for millions of families throughout America!
With the growing adoption of the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship and the continued expansion of state-level programs, there is tremendous hope and excitement for the future and all that lies ahead.
Join us as partners in this work, this week, on National School Choice Week, to celebrate the monumental wins, while also recommitting to the conviction that every child deserves access to a high-quality education that prepares them to thrive. Together, we can transform the lives of children and create a brighter future for our country.
