Michael Behe: A Biography

Michael Behe (born 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania) is a biochemist and an influential intelligent-design theorist. A Professor of Biochemistry at Lehigh University and a Senior Fellow at the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture, he received his PhD in biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978. His dissertation was on aspects of sickle-cell disease, and his postdoctoral work Read More ›

The Evidence for Molecular Machines

Dr. Michael Behe on The Case for a Creator discusses the changing view of cells from Darwin’s day until our own. No long believed to be a simple glob of protoplasm, the cell today is known to hold molecular machines and billions of units of DNA.

Response: Waiting Longer for Two Mutations

In the Abstract of their recent article, “Waiting for Two Mutations: With Applications to Regulatory Sequence Evolution and the Limits of Darwinian Evolution” (GENETICS 180: 1501–1509, 2008), Durrett and Schmidt write that one of their aims is “to expose flaws in some of Michael Behe’s arguments concerning mathematical limits to Darwinian evolution.” Their effort, however, is itself seriously flawed. They Read More ›

What NOVA Won’t Tell You about Dover

“Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial” is a special devoted to the Dover trial as Judge Jones saw it. While they promise to deliver the true story behind this dramatic trial, this program instead provides a lopsided, incomplete portrayal of the Dover trial based largely on Judge John E. Jones’ poorly argued and scientifically inaccurate ruling. Read More ›

Sean Carroll Fails to Scale The Edge of Evolution: A Rebuttal to Sean Carroll’s Anti-ID Book Review in Science

[Editor’s Note: This article originally appeared as a four-part series on Evolution News and Views, as Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.] Introduction A few months ago I posted a review of Sean B. Carroll’s book The Making of the Fittest: DNA and the Ultimate Forensic Record of Evolution, the book in which biologist Sean B. Carroll intimates Read More ›

The Edge of Evolution

From C-SPAN2’s Book TV, Michael Behe talks about his book, The Edge of Evolution: The Search for the Limits of Darwinism (Free Press). Behe argued that advancements in the science of genetics reveal that the process of evolution is driven far more by pre-existing design than by random mutation and natural selection, the foundations of Darwin’s theory of evolution. After Read More ›

Darwin’s Black Box Celebrates New 10th Anniversary Edition

Seattle — Ten years ago, biochemist Michael Behe helped to launch the modern intelligent design movement. when he outlined the theory of irreducible complexity in his book Darwin’s Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution, which dared to question the basic tenets of Darwinism.   Arguing that unintelligent accounts failed to explain the development of irreducibly complex systems such as blood clotting, the Read More ›

Irreducible Complexity Stands Up To Biologist’s Research Efforts

SEATTLE – After several years of claiming that there is no debate about the theory of intelligent design (ID) researchers have published an article bringing the debate to the pages of the latest issue of Science. Three researchers, Jamie Bridgham, Sean Carroll and Joe Thornton claim to have shown how an irreducibly complex system, such as that described by Discovery senior fellow Read More ›
