The Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council has begun a telework pilot project. Background in this Kitsap Sun article. Different versions of the KOMO-AM 1000 story ran the afternoon of Monday, September 15 and the morning of Tuesday, September 16. Here are transcripts of two.

TRANSCRIPT 1

Kristin Hanes, KOMO-AM 1000: “If the telecommute pilot program works at the Kitsap County Regional Council, we could start to see it all over.”

Bruce Agnew, Cascadia Center: “Telework plays an important role in reducing congestion, and also improving productivity, because employers basically have less time on the road and more time to work.”

Hanes: “Bruce Agnew, with the Cascadia Center at the Discovery Institute, says that some state offices have switched to a four-day work week, and Microsoft uses a telework center for employees.”

Agnew: ...(they can) get their e-mails done, maybe do a conference call, or video conference, and then hit the (State Route) 520 bridge in late morning when the traffic’s died out.”

Hanes: “He says the Kitsap program could serve as an example to employers.”

TRANSCRIPT 2

Hanes: “The Kitsap County Regional Council is piloting a telecommute program and several state agencies recently switched to a four-day work week.”

Agnew: “(.....) but it’s got to be part of a larger strategy including a major increase in bus service, and ride-share, and van pooling.”

Hanes: Bruce Agnew, with the Cascadia Center of the Discovery Institute, says there are some concerns.”

Agnew: “Many employees worry that if they’re not working (on-site) with their colleagues, that they’ll lose out on promotions, or their boss won’t really feel that they’re part of the team.”

Hanes: “However, that problem is solved, he says, when employees telecommute one day per week. Kristin Hanes, KOMO 1000 Newsradio.”
