The New Social Order of America’s Poor

2020 Gilder Fellows Seminar

Chris Rufo, Director of Discovery Institute’s Center on Wealth & Poverty, describes “pockets of extreme poverty” in America’s cities, asks how this phenomenon is possible in modern America, and explores compassionate approaches to addressing this vexing social issue.

Chris forwards the thesis that the federal bureaucracy’s has filled the economic vacuum left by stagnation in distressed communities and that these citizens have precious little representation in the government entities that direct their fate. Meanwhile, mediating institutions like churches and Elks Lodges, have largely disappeared.
