Frank Tipler

FRANK J. TIPLER is Professor of Mathematical Physics at Tulane University. He is the author of The Physics of Immortality, about the ultimate limits of computers and the role computers will play in the universe; The Physics of Christianity; and (with John Barrow) The Anthropic Cosmological Principle, about fine tuning and the significance of intelligent life in the universe.

Frank Tipler on the Singularity Atheists Keep Trying To Evade

On this episode of ID the Future we hear commentary on the singularity from Frank Tipler, Professor of Mathematical Physics at Tulane University and co-author of The Anthropic Cosmological Principle. This isn’t the supposed future singularity imagined by transhumanists, but the evidentially well-supported singularity at the foundation of the the Big Bang. The equations are clear, says Tipler: This singularity had an existence outside of space and time, was intrinsically infinite, and not subject to any laws of physics — among other arresting features. Atheists today still resist this conclusion, Tipler says, but only this conclusion has experimental support. This episode is drawn from bonus material from the new film series Science Uprising.

Frank Tipler: Could Einstein Be Published Under Today’s Peer-Review Policies?

On this episode of ID the Future, Dr. Frank Tipler discusses how leading science journals are increasingly hostile to new ideas, publishing only papers that are consistent with the dominant views of the scientific community. Tipler argues that if Einstein were to try and get a paper on his relativity theory published under today’s peer-review system, he would certainly be rejected, reminding us that academia needs to encourage scientists to challenge conformity in order to cultivate great thinkers.

Part 3: Einstein Vs. Darwin

On this episode of ID the Future, Casey Luskin and Dr. Frank Tipler continue their discussion of fine-tuning, the multiverse, and the cosmological evidence for design. Dr. Tipler argues that the initial conditions of the universe must have been “fine-tuned,” explaining that our universe was at its minimum entropy at its beginning. The probability of this condition occurring randomly is 1 in 1010123 — staggeringly unlikely. Could the universe be “self-creating,” as Stephen Hawking has argued? Listen in as Tipler says the answer is “No.”

Part 2: Einstein Vs. Darwin

On this episode of ID the Future, Casey Luskin once again sits down with Dr. Frank Tipler, Professor of Mathematics and Physics at Tulane University and author of The Anthropic Cosmological Principle. Casey and Dr. Tipler continue their discussion on fine tuning in the universe, the multiverse, and the evidence for cosmic design.

Part 1: Einstein Vs. Darwin

On this episode of ID the Future, hear from Frank Tipler, Professor of Mathematics and Physics at Tulane University and author of The Anthropic Cosmological Principle. Dr. Tipler compares the perspectives of Einstein and Darwin and explains how the difference in their views applies to the debate over origins, Darwinian evolution, and intelligent design.

Peer-Review: Ensuring Quality or Enforcing Orthodoxy?

Is the only good science peer-reviewed science? Are there other avenues to present important scientific work? On this episode of ID The Future, Professor of Mathematics Dr. Frank Tipler discusses the pros and cons of peer review and refereed journals. More than fifty peer-reviewed papers discussing intelligent design have been published, but critics of the theory still proclaim a lack of peer-reviewed work as an argument. Listen in as Tipler shows how things have changed with the peer review process and what we can do about it.
