Steve Fuller on the Legacy of William Whewell
View at YouTubeSteve Fuller speaks on the legacy of William Whewell. Prof Fuller is Auguste Comte Chair in Social Epistemology, University of Warwick. William Whewell was a mid-19th century English scientist, philosopher, historian, priest, mathematician, and poet. His exceptional breath of study was matched only by his depth of understanding. While Whewell made significant contributions in a variety of fields, he is perhaps best known for authoring a Bridgewater Treatise, coining the term “scientist,” and writing seminal volumes in the history and philosophy of science: History of the Inductive Sciences and The Philosophy of the Inductive Sciences.
