On October 1, Keri D. Ingraham spoke to the graduate students in the classical education program at Hillsdale College in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ingraham was asked to share about her work as a Senior Fellow at Discovery Institute and as Director of the Institute\u2019s American Center for Transforming Education. Following the introductory time, she delivered formal remarks for 40 minutes in a speech titled \u201cEducation Freedom Is Essential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a nation, we can no longer justify restricting children to these failing government-run schools for their education. Nor can the ever-increasing astronomical spending on the public education system continue to support the status quo. Change is urgently needed. And that change will require competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Andy Puzder, President Trump\u2019s U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, recently explained<\/a>: \u201cCompetition is the only thing that increases quality and decreases price.\u201d <\/em>It\u2019s the basics of a free market, which is long overdue in K-12 education in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research shows that when there is competition in a community from school choice \u2014 it not only improves the academic outcomes for the students who exit the district public school \u2014 but also for the students who remain.<\/p>\nKeri D. Ingraham<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The speech was well-received, and students remained afterward \u2014 some for more than a full hour \u2014 to have the opportunity to visit with Ingraham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
