Wealth & Poverty Review Universidad Francisco Marroquín Awards an Honorary Doctorate to George Gilder

Guatemala’s Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) awarded Discovery Institute co-founder George Gilder an honorary doctorate during its 2014 commencement ceremony today.

Translated from the UFM announcement:

George Gilder is receiving the honorary doctorate for his significant contributions to the economy, technology and development. Gilder was one of the fathers of the school of economics known as supply-side economics (Economía de la Oferta) and is an internationally recognized technology guru. He is the author of Wealth and Poverty, and is one of Ronald Reagan’s most cited living authors. Gilder also wrote Knowledge & Power: The Information Theory of Capitalism and How It is Revolutionizing Our World, among others.

Past recipients of an honorary degree from UFM include Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, Robert Sirico, and Vernon Smith.
The University’s mission is “to teach and disseminate the ethical, legal, and economic principles of a society of free and responsible persons.” It is named for Francisco Marroquín, who fought against oppression and exploitation in Guatemala.
Congratulations to George and to UFM’s graduating class of 2014!
