Update on Timothy Stoen, C. S. Lewis Foundation Lawyer

The Lewis Legacy-Issue 78, Autumn 1998 The C.S. Lewis Foundation for Truth in Publishing

In February 1998 Timothy Stoen of Mendocino, CA, 60, filed his candidacy for the 2nd State Senate District seat.

It was in 1994 that Stan Mattson engaged Stoen to represent the C. S. Lewis Foundation and suppress Light in the Shadowlands. Stoen promptly launched a vigorous campaign of threats and falsehoods about the book that he did not abandon until 1996.

According to the AP, 1995 was the year when Tim left the Republican party. Until then, he was a lifelong Republican with frustrated political aspirations, But he was a secret supporter of the Black Panthers and then a Communist during his years as co-leader of the People’s Temple cult. He kept his Communism secret in public and boasted of it to his cult followers.

As a Democrat, Tim was seeking the 1998 seat vacated by a Democratic incumbent; but he was defeated in the primaries by his Democratic opponent. It is not clear if his adopted party was aware that by his own account Stoen intentionally triggered the Guyanna cult massacre.
