Light in the Shadowlands Replaces C. S. Lewis Hoax

The Lewis Legacy-Issue 61, Summer 1994 The C.S. Lewis Foundation for Truth in Publishing

In October 1994 Questar Publishers of Sisters, Oregon, is releasing a new book, Light in the Shadowlands: Protecting the Real C.S. Lewis. It incorporates The C.S. Lewis Hoax but is more than twice as long — with new features, vastly more information, and several surprises. It is softbound, to hold cost down to $10.99, and illustrated again by Patrick Wynne.

Warm preview endorsements have come in from a variety of people, including Michael Aeschliman (author of The Restitution of Man: C.S. Lewis and the Case against Scientism); Canon H. Boone Porter (senior editor of The Living Church); and Bob Darden (editor of The Door, gospel music editor of Billboard Magazine, and professor at Baylor University). Lyle Dorsett says, “No serious student of the life and writings of C.S. Lewis should ignore this book.”

Questar’s decision to replace The C.S. Lewis Hoax was made suddenly at the beginning of March. Preparing the new book has consumed almost all of this editor’s time since then, somewhat delaying the summer issue of Legacy.

John Bremer recently investigated sketchy events in the life of C. S. Lewis beginning in 1917 and related to Lewis’s first book, Spirits in Bondage. As a result, his 10,884-word study “From Despoina to Diotima” dominates this issue. The autumn issue will include an array of materials from the Legacy backlog, as well as fresh letters and news.
