Yuri Mamchur, a Russian national and a Moscow native, serves as a Foreign Policy Fellow and Director of Discovery Institute's Real Russia Project. He is the senior writer and editor for the program's popular news site,
Russia Blog, which he developed after founding the
Real Russia Project in April 2005.
In his role as a specialist on U.S.-Russia relations, Mr. Mamchur has appeared as a guest and commentator in major international media outlets, ranging from television to print and online formats. He has advised Fortune 500 companies and multiple government agencies, including the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Department of State, the Secretary of State of Washington, and other.
Before joining Discovery Institute, Mr. Mamchur served in the not-for-profit sector in Washington, D.C., and the legal and business sectors in Moscow. In 2009, in addition to his duties at Discovery Institute, Mr. Mamchur became the Executive Director of the
World Russia Forum, a 30-year-old organization that hosts annual conferences on U.S.-Russia relations on Capitol Hill and at the Russian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
Mr. Mamchur is also a classically-trained pianist, composer and music producer. In his free time he has enjoyed teaching piano to young students and volunteering with the Tacoma (Wash.) YMCA. Additionally, he frequently hosts roundtables with secondary school, college and graduate students to educate them on modern-day Russia and U.S.-Russia relations.
Mr. Mamchur studied public policy at Georgetown University, and holds a law degree with honors from the Russian Finance University (Moscow, Russia), where he was a PhD candidate. In May 2011, Mr. Mamchur earned his MBA degree at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management located in Nashville, Tenn.
