Discovery Institute is honored to welcome Congressman Dave Reichert as the next speaker in our Gorton Lecture Series. Congressman Reichert will speak on the topic of his Preventing Sex Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act, and on the role of the government in promoting the safety of children in the foster care system.
Congressman Reichert is a particularly fitting speaker, considering his own exemplary leadership. He has served Seattle for many years in various capacities: as a member of the Air Force Reserves, as the sheriff of King County, and currently as the U.S. Representative for Washington’s 8th congressional district.
Both as sheriff and as a legislator, Congressman Reichert has distinguished himself by his concern for exploited youth. While in the King County sheriff’s department, he played a key role in apprehending the Green River serial killer, whose victims were primarily vulnerable young women. In Congress, he has spearheaded efforts to protect the vulnerable on a larger scale with his Preventing Sex Trafficking and Improving Opportunities for Youth in Foster Care Act.This event is open to the public, though young leaders are particularly encouraged to attend.
The lecture and accompanying luncheon and begin at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5. The cost is $10 and includes a boxed lunch. Parking is available in nearby garages and on the street. Please direct any questions to Anna Salick at 206-292-0401 ext. 102, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
