Eastside TRailway Partnership Community Forums
Two Events Jan. 16 &17, Kirkland & Snohomish

Our Cascadia Center for Regional Development has launched a community-based Eastside TRrailway Partnership to bring together train and trail advocates, local leaders, and finance/development interests. Our plan is to formulate a strategy to finance the development of a rail and trail corridor on the abandoned BNSF Eastside rail line that will improve Snohomish and King County mobility, improve economic development and tourism, and promote healthy recreational activities.
The Eastside TRailway Partnership will hold two community forums Jan. 16 and Jan. 17 on development of an Eastside commuter rail line, featuring local and county elected officials, rail experts and advocates. The events come close on the heels of an important decision by the Port of Seattle to purchase and preserve the rail corridor in public ownership. With regional traffic congestion growing, and a 52 percent population increase forecast for the region by 2040 by the Puget Sound Regional Council, Cascadia Center and many others assert that a cost-efficient Eastside commuter rail line would be one key component of the region's transportation system.

The first event will be held in the Peter Kirk Room of the Kirkland City Hall, 123 Fifth Ave. on January 16, 2008 (directions). Reception: 5:00 p.m. Program: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Karen Guzak, newly elected Snohomish City Councilmember, will co-host the second event on January 17, 2008, at the Angel Arms Works, 230 Avenue B, Snohomish (directions). Reception: 5:30 p.m. Program: 6:00-8:00 p.m.
