Thomas Cole: Art and Nature as a Bridge to God

John G. West, on Thomas Cole, founder of the "Hudson River School" of landscape painting in mid-nineteenth century America. Perhaps best known for his lush landscapes of scenes around the Hudson River Valley in New York, Cole combined art and nature in his quest to explore a greater spiritual reality.
