BACKGROUND - RIPPING UP COMMUTER RAIL TRACKS IS THE WRONG MOVE, AT THE WRONG TIME. King County and the Port of Seattle have announced a Memorandum of Understanding to acquire the 42-mile Renton to Snohomish Burlington Northern 7 Sante Fe rail corridor for public ownership. That is great. Under the agreement, however, the 31- mile section from Woodinville to Renton would be torn up for a trail only. We can have both in the near future at an affordable price!

PROGRAM: The forum features former BNSF Operations Director Read Fay who will outline the real cost of track repairs. Other topics of discussion include Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) passenger cars - which are low cost, fueled by biodiesel, and can accommodate bicycles - and how to integrate public and private funding for neighborhood stations and track improvements.

REGISTER: Register now with Jennifer Zucati at jenniferz@discovery.org AND John Earling at jearling@discovery.org.
