The Abolition Of Man? How Politics And Culture Have Been Dehumanized In The Name Of Science

Dr. John West At The Heritage Foundation

What: A lecture by CSC Senior Fellow John West
When: November 6, 12PM-1PM
Where: Lehrman Auditorium, The Heritage Foundation, Washington, D.C.

At the dawn of the last century, leading scientists and politicians giddily predicted that science would supply solutions to all the intractable problems of American society, from crime to poverty to sexual maladjustment. Instead, politics and culture were dehumanized as experts speaking in the name of science began treating human beings as little more than animals or machines, fulfilling predictions made by C.S. Lewis in his classic study, The Abolition of Man. Come hear Discovery Institute Senior Fellow Dr. John West explore the disastrous results that ensue when scientists and politicians deny the essential differences between human beings and the rest of nature.

Author of the new book Darwin Day in America: How Our Politics and Culture Have Been Dehumanized in the Name of Science (ISI Books, 2007), Dr. West is a Senior Fellow at Discovery Institute and has been interviewed frequently by national media, including Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, CNN, and Fox News.
