Gorton Summer Lecture Series

Discovery Institute is pleased to announce our third annual summer lecture series for interns and young professionals. The 'Gorton Summer Lecture Series' named for our distinguished board member and former U.S. Senator Slade Gorton, introduces young people to the nature and ideals of public service. The series also examines current political issues and their potential impact. We are pleased to be joined this year by the Washington Policy Center as a co-sponsor. Events in the series are presented interview-style, or as a lecture on a topic of the speaker's choosing.

Dr. Matt Manweller is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Central Washington University. He earned his Bachelors degree in Economics from Whitman College, his Masters in Political Science from the University of Montana, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Oregon in 2003. He is a member of numerous national and regional Political Science associations, including the American Political Science Association. Dr. Manweller is faculty adviser to the College Republicans. He is also a member of the Washington Policy Center's Research Advisory Board.

Dr. Manweller's research interests focus on constitutional law, democratic theory, and political economy. His more important skills and interests include fly-fishing, backpacking, and ultimate Frisbee.

This event will be held on Friday, August 3, from 4:30pm-6:00pm at Discovery Institute, located in the Melbourne Tower at the corner of Third Avenue and Pike Street in downtown Seattle. Our offices are well served by Metro and public parking is accessible from the corner of Second Avenue and Pike Street. Refreshments will be provided, and there is no cost to attend.
