BE IT KNOWN that WARREN HAMILTON LEWIS of The Kilns Lewis Close Headington Quarry Oxford died on the 9th day of April 1973 domiciled in England and Wales

AND BE IT FURTHER KNOWN that at the date hereunto written the last Will and Testament with two codicils thereto (a copy whereof is hereunto annexed) of the said deceased was proved and registered in the District Probate Registry of the High Court of Justice at Brighton and Administration of all the estate which by law devolves to and vests in the personal representative of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to CEDRIC HINTON FLEETWOOD REYNOLDS and SIMON ROBERT BEAZLEY both of 139 North End Croydon Surrey the executors named in the said Will and it is hereby certified that an Inland Revenue affidavit has been delivered wherein it is shown that the gross value of the said estate in the United Kingdom (exclusive of what the said deceased may have been possessed of or entitled to as a trustee and not beneficially) amounts to £ 75009.11
and that the net value of the estate amounts to £ 63049.69
and it is further certified that it appears by a receipt signed by an Inland Revenue officer on the said affidavit that £ 23066.84 on account of estate duty and interest on such duty has been paid.

THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me WARREN HAMILTON LEWIS Major in the Royal Army Service Corps of Her Majesty's Army Retired of "The Kilns" Kiln Lane Headington Quarry Oxford

1. I HEREBY REVOKE all testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me

2. I APPOINT CEDRIC HINTON FLEETWOOD REYNOLDS and SIMON ROBERT BEAZLEY both of Danes Inn House 265 Strand in the City of Westminster Solicitors to the Executors of this my Will

3. I WISH to be buried in the same grave as my brother Clive Staples Lewis in the Churchyard at Headington Quarry in the County of Oxford and I DESIRE my executors to have engraved on the tomb-stone below the existing legend my name and rank in Her Majesty's Army the date of my birth and the date and place of my death

4. I GIVE the following pecuniary legacies free of duty:-

a. FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to FREDERICK PAXFORD of 5 The Square Churchill Oxon

b. ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to LADY MAUREEN HELEN DAISY DUNBAR PROVIDED that Leonard Miller and his wife Maud my housekeeper are allowed to occupy "The Kilns" rent free for a period of six months after my death and if either of them should predecease me PROVIDED that the survivor of them is allowed to occupy "The Kilns" rent free for a period of six months after my death. In the event of both of them predeceasing me, I BEQUEATH the said sum of ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to the said LADY MAUREEN HELEN DAISY DUNBAR unconditionally

c. ONE THOUSAND POUNDS to FRANK HENRY of Dromere Chapel Road Bessbrook County Down Northern Ireland

d. FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS to THE REVEREND WALTER HOOPER of Wadham College University of Oxford

e. FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS to MAUD MILLER of "The Kilns" Kiln Lane Headington Quarry aforesaid absolutely but in the event of her predeceasing me I DIRECT my Executors to pay the said legacy of FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS which she would have received had she not predeceased me to her husband LEONARD MILLER absolutely

5. I GIVE to MRS. RUTH PARKER of Sunnyland Holywood County Down Northern Ireland the following books:-

6. I GIVE to Wheaton College Wheaton Illinoise U.S.A. all letters manuscripts etc of the Late Professor C.S. Lewis which may be found amongst my effects particularly the note books containing the stories which he wrote in his childhood and the eleven quarto typescript volumes entitled "Lewis Papers" and also my own manuscript diaries and the family photographs which are in an envelope in a drawer of my writing table

7. I DEVISE AND BEQUEATH all my estate not hereby or by any Codicil hereto otherwise disposed of unto my Executor UPON TRUST to sell call in and convert the same into money (with power to postpone such sole calling in and conversion) and out of the proceeds of such sale calling in and conversion to pay my debts and funeral and testamentary expenses and to pay the balance remaining to the following three persons or the survivors of them at the date of my death in equal shares namely MISS ELIZABETH LEWIS of Sandycroft Bloomfield Belfast Northern Ireland MRS. CLARE CLAPPERTON of Glenaan Lodge Helenaburgh Dunbartonshire Scotland and the said MRS. RUTH PARKER provided that if any of the said three residuary legatees shall predecease me leaving children or a child living at my death the said children or child (and if more than one in equal shares) shall take the share of my residuary estate which their parent would have taken had she survived me

8. AND I DECLARE that my Trustee and Executor hereof being a Solicitor or other person engaged in any profession or business may be so employed and shall be entitled to charge and be paid all professional and other charges for any business or act done by him or his firm in connection with my estate and the trusts thereof including any act which an Executor or Trustee not being a Solicitor or other person engaged as aforesaid could have done personally

THIS IS THE SECOND CODICIL to the Will dated the twenty fifth day of June One thousand nine hundred and sixty nine of me WARREN HAMILTON LEWIS of "The Kilns" Kiln Lane, Headington Quarry, Oxford, a Major (retired) in Her Majesty's Army

1. In addition to the pecuniary legacies contained in Clause 4 of my said Will I GIVE free of duty to the Executors and Trustees of my said Will (hereinafter called "my Trustees") such a sum as shall not exceed the sum of TEN THOUSAND POUNDS (£ 10,000) as they shall at their discretion require to be applied in or towards the cost including all legal and other professional fees and disbursements of purchasing a residential property (hereinafter called "the House") of an tenure situate anywhere in the United Kingdom of the choice of MAUD MILL and her husband LEONARD MILLER both the "The Kilns" aforesaid (hereinafter called "the Occupiers") or the survivor of them AND I DECLARE THAT my trustees shall stand possessed of the House upon the following trusts:-

a. To sell the same at such time or times and in said manner as my Trustees may think fit subject to the consent in writing of the Occupiers during their respective lives

b. To stand possessed of the same until the same UPON TRUST to allow the Occupiers or the survivor of them to reside in the same free of rent so long as they shall desire and so long as the Occupiers or the survivor shall reside the said trust for sale shall not be exercised without the consent of the Occupiers or so long as one of them shall reside therein the said trust for sale shall not be exercised without the consent of such one of them so residing AND I DECLARE no involuntary ceasing to reside in the House shall be construed as a ceasing to reside therein and that such residence shall in any case be subject to the payment by those or the one residing therein of the rates, taxes, and the costs of keeping the House in reasonable repair and the cost of effecting in the names of my Trustees and keeping the said property insured against such risks as my Trustees shall in their absolute discretion deem necessary and all other outgoings in respect of the said property

c. Subject as aforesaid my Trustees shall hold the net proceeds of sale and the net income until sale as part of my residuary estate

2. IN all other respect I confirm my said Will
