Cascadia/Microsoft TransTech Forum On Future Trends in Energy, Technology
and Transportation May 31-June 1

SEATTLE, May 24 /PRNewswire/ — “Energy, security and transportation as
domestic and foreign policy issues make this conference very timely, and
we’re fortunate to have the insights of so many distinguished leaders from
the public and private sector,” said Bruce Agnew, Director of the
Seattle-based Cascadia Center for Regional Development.

The Cascadia Center and Microsoft are pleased to bring elected
officials, entrepreneurs and public policy experts to Microsoft’s campus
June 1 to provide their proposals for securing our ports and diversifying
America’s energy portfolio.

Congressmen Adam Smith and Dave Reichert will speak in the morning on
homeland security, to be followed by Senator Maria Cantwell’s luncheon
address on reforming America’s energy policy. Following her remarks,
Senator Cantwell will answer questions from the press. Senator Sam
Brownback (speaking via videoconference) and former CIA Director Jim
Woolsey will speak on an afternoon panel of energy policy experts including
Assistant Secretary of Energy Andrew Karsner and KC Golden from Climate
Solutions.

In addition to hearing from policymakers and innovators in alternative
fuels, conference participants and members of the press will tour a
showcase including the AFS Trinity concept car, a vehicle that gets 250
miles per gallon, and CalCars’ Toyota Prius plug-in electric hybrid and a
repowered for biodiesel Volvo. By recharging vehicle batteries from the
power grid and going weeks between fill-ups in the city, plug-in hybrids
promise to substitute cheap domestic electricity for expensive imported
oil.
